ECOPOTENTIAL has been widely presented at the 38th annual symposium of the European Association of Remote Sensing that has taken place in Chania (GR). ECOPOTENTIAL partners from Ben Gurion University, CERTH, FORTH, and EURAC were there presenting results achieved in the framework of ECOPOTENTIAL research.
ECOPOTENTIAL partners, CERTH (Greece), FORTH (Greece), EURAC (Italy) and BGU (Israel), presented their research results at the 38thEARSeL Symposium and the 3rd joint EARSeL LULC & NASA LCLUC Workshop; both held in parallel at the Conference Center of the Mediterranean Agronomic Institute of Chania, Greece.
The events hosted 12 globally acknowledged keynote speakers, and 4 esteemed session chairs. Latter come from the Unit for Space Data for Societal Challenges and Growth of the DG Grow of the European Commission, the newly appointed GEO Secretariat Director, the University of Washington, and the DLR German Aerospace Centre. About 230 participants populated the events with high caliber presentations and joined vivid discussions. Among other ECOPOTENTIAL achievements, the Earth Observation Data for Ecosystem Monitoring (EODESM) and the recently developed methodology for hydroperiod estimation in wetland areas utilizing fused Sentinel-1 (S1) and Sentinel-2 (S2) data were presented.
Representation of the Italian Space Agency gave also a good contribution to the brand new MedRIN (Mediterranean Information Network), established by Greece, Cyprus, Israel, Turkey and Italy with the support of NASA to tackle issues about Land Cover and Land Use remote sensing applications towards the WEF nexus. MedRIN shall seek acknowledgement by GOFC GOLD as one of its global networks. Matters shall develop fast next months. All info at http://symposium.earsel.org/38th-symposium-Chania/
